  • Install
    • Excavation: An excavator digs the correct size and depth for the tank and trenches for the pipes, ensuring the base is level.
    • Tank Placement: The septic tank is carefully placed in the hole, making sure it is level. Water is often added to the tank during installation to prevent it from floating if it rains.
    • Pipe connection: The sewage pipe from the house is connected to the tank's inlet. The tank's outlet pipe is then connected to the drain field, which is a series of perforated pipes or chambers designed to release the liquid effluent into the soil.
    • Drain field installation: The drain field pipes are laid out and connected to each other. A manifold may be used to split the discharge into different channels.
    • Backfilling and grading: After inspection and approval, the trenches and tank are covered with the excavated soil, and the area is graded to prevent water from pooling on top of the system.
    • Inspection: Authorities inspect the system to ensure it complies with local codes and regulations.
    • Documentation: An "as built" drawing of the system is created and given to the homeowner and health department, which includes the location of the tank and drain field.

Storm Drains:

  • Downspouts and Gutters Drains: Systems that collect rainwater from rooftops and direct it away from the building's foundation.
  • Trench Drains: Long, narrow drains that are useful for capturing water along a run, such as in driveways or parking lots.
